You're crunching ice or a slice of hard candy when you find something hard in your mouth that won't break or disappear. You get a sick feeling as you remember what it is: a slice of broken teeth. Although the enamel that coats the teeth is the toughest, most mineralized tissue that connects, its strength is limited. Falling, taking a blow to the face or crushing down about something hard will cause a tooth to crack or snap, especially if the tooth has already some corrosion. Don't be alarmed if you discover a broken or chipped tooth. There are some things the dentist will do to help you.
Dental Bonding or Filling
If you've just chipped a little piece of dental plaque, your dentist will be able to patch the problem with a filling. If the patch is on a front tooth that can be seen while you grin, the dentist will most often use bonding, which involves the use of a tooth-colored acrylic material. Bonding is a straightforward process that does not usually necessitate numbing the tooth. To bond a tooth, the dentist first etches its surface with a liquid or gel to roughen it and make the bonding material adhere to it. Next, the dentist applies an adhesive material to the tooth followed by a tooth colored resin. After shaping the bonding material to look like a natural tooth, the dentist uses an ultraviolet light to harden the material.
Crown or Dental Cap
If a thick layer of tooth drops off or the tooth has a bunch of deterioration, the dentist can grind or file away a portion of the missing tooth and replace it with a patch, or fingernail cap, designed to protect and enhance the tooth's appearance. Steel, porcelain glued to metal, all acrylic, or all ceramic lasting crowns are available. Different forms have different advantages. All-metal crowns are the most durable. Crowns made of porcelain or resin may be made to look almost similar to the actual tooth.
Veneers for the Teeth
If a front tooth is missing or chipped, a dental veneer may restore its appearance and wellbeing. A dental veneer is a slim shell of tooth-colored ceramics or resin composite material that protects the whole in the front tooth (similar to how a fake nail covers a fingernail) and has a thicker portion to replace the missing component of the tooth. Your dentist will scrape between 0.3 to 1.2 millimeters of enamel from the surface of the tooth to prepare it. Veneers are one of the most demanded cosmetic dentistry in California. People visit the best cosmetic dentist in Los Gatos and get their procedures done in very economical prices.
Root Canal Treatment
Microorganisms from the mouth may penetrate and invade the pulp if a tooth chip or crack is large enough as to show the pulp (the middle of the tooth containing nerves and blood vessels). If your tooth pains, changes color, or is responsive to heat, it is likely that the pulp is broken or diseased. Pulp tissue may die, and if it is not replaced, the tooth can become contaminated and need extraction.
